Wrapped with Intention
Lokta paper is a sustainable, tree-free material that reflects Nepal’s enduring legacy of eco-conscious craftsmanship. Handmade in the Himalayan foothills, lokta is made from the bark of the Daphne shrub, a naturally regenerative plant that flourishes without the need for replanting. Its bark can be harvested every five to seven years without damaging the plant, making it one of the most sustainable fiber sources in the world.

The process of making lokta paper is both ecological and artisanal.
After the bark is hand-harvested, it is boiled, pulped, and then spread into sheets and sun-dried — all without the use of chemicals or complex machines. The result is a richly textured, durable, and naturally insect-resistant paper that has been used for centuries to preserve sacred texts.
At Jijivisha, using wrapping paper and stationary made from lokta paper holds aesthetic and ecological values. It is also our way of upholding a traditional craft and supporting the local economy. They reflect the same values as our garments: heritage, sustainability, and care in every detail. It’s our way of honoring tradition while treading lightly on the earth — from first stitch to final wrap.
